Case Study

A seed launch with a list of 2000 people that made $16k in 5 days without any paid ads.

Yannick Jacob is a pioneer in existentialism and teaches coaching at Cambridge University. When we started working together, he had a decent online presence, but his business was struggling. 

The issue? 

Scattered offerings, an underutilised list and the lack of a funnel that could turn a prospect into a buyer.

In the absence of strategy and systems, the business was only making money when Yannick would trade his time. And even then, the numbers were abysmal. 

The constant firefighting and unpredictability were leading to burnout and stress for him. 

The objective : 

I wanted to generate passive income for Yannick to free up his time and help him achieve profitability for the first time. We set a target of $10,000 in revenue from passive sources. 

My role: 

I came on board as a content manager and copywriter, so much of my initial work involved gathering research, conducting customer interviews, and setting up the funnel from scratch. 

After writing the website copy, I helped Yannick set up a content management system. We streamlined the content creation and distribution process, and over the next 60 days, his LinkedIn followers grew solidly.

Next, I tackled the email list. Yannick already had around 2000 subscribers who were warm. 

So I switched to a CRM that allowed audience segmentation and data tracking. 

Finally, we focussed on doing a seed launch to get a revenue boost. 

The cash crunch was real so we barely had any resources to create a new course from scratch. We decided to go ahead with a short, recorded, self-paced course on Existential Coaching that Yannick had taught offline before COVID-19. 

It wasn’t complicated or elaborate but had a lot of novelty in an overly saturated coaching industry. 

Since the ticket size wasn’t much, I helped him create a more substantial offer by bundling his supervision services and adding some scarcity to the offer. I interviewed his previous students, gathered their reviews and researched the concept in detail.

Then I created the copy for his sales page and worked with the designer to set it up. Once the sales page was ready, I dove right in to create a launch email sequence of about 16 emails, plugged it into his ESP and set up the A/B tests to determine the best-performing copy. 

I also helped him create 15 social media content pieces for Linked In, specific to the launch. We conducted 3 live sessions to warm up his online audience. 

Since the budget was limited we completely refrained from running any paid ads. 

Once we were ready, we opened the cart to these 2000 people and an online audience of about 7k on Linked In. 

The result : 

The seed launch was a success. For someone who had never done a proper launch before, Yannick’s business saw an extra $16000 in revenue that month, raked in just 5 days. 

Not just that, the launch and all the buzz around it, established him further as an authority in this small coaching niche. 

Learnings : 

For Yannick, 

  • it was an eye-opening experience in how strong copy can drive action. 
  • how a well-executed launch can bring in revenue and profitability for a business. 

For me, 

  • Working with someone who had never done this before was challenging yet enlightening . 
  • Even though we were doing this in a super niche coaching segment, people responded positively because of how the copy was written and presented. 
  • It further highlighted the importance of A/B testing and Voice of customer research. 
  • The biggest satisfaction was bringing Yannick’s incredible work in front of those who valued it enough to pay for it.

The Institute of Continuous Professional Development (iCPD) provides education, community, and credibility to help professionals stay relevant in an uncertain world. 

In partnership with the CPD Standards Office UK, iCPD recognises professionals for their continuous learning, regardless of their job title, educational level, or work experience.

The organisation’s goals include increasing membership, improving communication with its target audience, and revamping its website to generate more business.

My main focus was on improving the overall effectiveness of their website copy by making it clear who their target audience is and how iCPD membership will help these individuals. 

My work included writing the entire website copy, content restructuring, keyword optimisation, and edits.

Website Copywriting For Spacemilk

I worked with Tiffany, the CMO of Spacemilk, to write the website copy from scratch. When we started, the website was an advertising store. Spacemilk is a clean protein powder with a target audience heavily driven by sustainability values. 

To write the copy, I focused on the customer interview transcripts and the product’s simplicity. I crafted the homepage and About page to showcase these values and wrote the ingredients page to reflect the highest level of transparency. To ensure that we attracted only qualified leads, we placed a greater emphasis on the scientific aspects of the product.
